Loving it at :-) Myakka River State Park !

MS at Myakka 010
Chuck quickly backed into our beautiful, canopied campsite at the Big Flats campground at Myakka River State Park, east of Sarasota Florida. Huge old oaks, towering pines and drapery of spanish moss welcomed us!

Looking out our back window, all we see are more palms and the wide open Florida prairie where the deer and the wild pigs entertain daily!

Our first day there, Chuck saw this bald eagle. Of course I had my wide angle lens on and had to crop like crazy to get any sort of photo at all….

Vultures! Lots and lots of vultures! Tis the mating season and they gather in warm sunny Florida to find their love life high in the skies….   and next to some not so prudent tent campers who left their snacks out on their picnic table , below.

Myakka canopy trail 011
This is the beginning of the Canopy Trail. It will take you back to the tall tower below and a suspension bridge taking you from one tower to another.
Myakka tower 145
Since I do not do stairs well, and these towers meant a lot of stairs, I handed Chuck the camera and up he went.

At the top of the tower, you get a full 360 degree view of Myakka River State Park.

Fishing is good from the bridge! These folks are using cast nets to catch tilapia.
Tilapia are non-native and  considered an invasive species of fish. Myakka will allow you to keep all the non-native fish, but you must return all native fish to the water!

The end to another wonderful day at Myakka River State Park! Chuck and I love Florida State Parks so much, we have decided we would like to volunteer here.  We got a contact name and number and called and left a phone message expressing our interest in  becoming volunteers at Myakka. That was Friday afternoon, and by golly, this morning we got a return phone call and seems like we may have a very good chance of working here this spring for a few months! YaY!  Keep your fingers crossed for us!

From the crew of the MotherShip, Chuck, Geri and our furkids DoogieBowser and Radar, we hope you enjoyed seeing this wonderful Florida park with us!
We are now camped at Highlands Hammock State Park near Sebring FL. Another jewel in the Florida State Parks Crown!

Chuck and Geri are moving to Florida!

WE FINALLY DECIDED!

After much discussion, Chuck and I have decided to move back to Florida. We have a wonderful daughter and son in law and four wonderful grandkids living there. Family is important!
So is good seafood! All they have out here is frozen seafood, and it just does not taste anywhere near as good fresh Gulf of Mexico, Franklin County Seafood! Yum! Looking forward to fresh shrimp, oysters, grouper, scallops and flounder!

We already have a buyer so that detail is taken care of, now we are busy sorting, discarding, donating and packing!  But today, Chuck finally got busy removing the 2 sharp, spiny Cacti growing out of the gutter.

These 2 have the longest, sharpest spines we had ever seen on any cacti!  Chuck needed to take extra care removing them!

 FINALLY! SUCCESS!
He was lucky, not a single scratch! Both cacti are now safely planted!  We have been trying to clean up and get ready for the new buyer to take over.  There are many things we will miss about living here, we really like this quirky little town of Truth or Consequences New Mexico.  We will miss seeing landscapes of blue mountains in the horizons, we love the scenery out here! But to be truthful, I think we have better Mexican restaurants in Florida! I have never gotten used to flat enchiladas served with a fried egg on top!

This is a South West Bird of Paradise  that I started from seed last year!  I started with about 6 seeds and only this one sprouted! The South West version of the Bird of Paradise is very different from the tropical variety!

After getting the cacti down from the gutter, Chuck rakes the gravel with his fancy folding gravel rake.

Not to be outdone, I planted 2 varieties of lavender in the big pots. They grow well here, surviving the dry climate and the winter frosts and they smaell so beautiful! By this time next year, both pots of lavender should fill these large pots and probably be overflowing!  I hope the new owner will like lavender!

We will be heading back to Florida around July. We will just sort of meander our way there as there are a lot of friends to visit along the way and some favorite stops to hang out for a few days.  We are in no hurry to arrive in Florida mid-summer!

Wish us well!  We are looking forward to the new adventure of being full-timers (living in our RV full-time) and not being tied down with "stuff". Chuck is so lucky...  he cast off most of his extra "stuff" before we met! Me, on the other hand, I am sooooo attached to the things I have collected over the years! I have family heirlooms that Chuck's daughter has graciously accepted for her home. But I have so much art! I have been collecting SW art for over 30 years! Kachinas, pottery, Navajo rugs, photography.. oh my!  But the local art gallery is having a special show of sorts, everyone can bring their own art or can, like me, sell the art that has been collected over the years. The sale at Rio Bravo Fine Art Gallery will be May 3rd and 4th!  This should be the best way to find good homes for my art.
I hear other folks talking about how hard it was getting rid of their "stuff" to, but after it was all over, they survived and felt lighter, more free than before.
I am hoping for that feeling soon, right now, it is painful! I am so glad Chuck is so understanding about it all and helping me through this! I have been procrastinating, just because it is so hard for me to do.  If any of you have advice.... I'm needing it!

Happy Trails from the crew of the MotherShip, Geri, Chuck, DoogieBowser and Radar!

Fish Lake Utah

Radar LOVED Fish Lake! There were chimpmunks and prairie dogs everywhere and every chance he got he was at the windows looking for them!
Please Mom?  I wanna go out and chase 'em !!!

MOM! PLEEEZZZEEE! I wanna chase them!

First one popped up...

Then two !!!

                                Then THREE!

MOM! They are EVERYWHERE! I can catch them!
I know I can!

Awww MOM! You are no fun at all!
For 4 days Radar kept us entertained running from window to window. Running from couch window to chair window to bedroom window! He escaped every chance he got to go off hunting! Needless to say, Radar had a great time... DoogieBowser and Scottie slept most of the time!
Chuck and I loved Fish Lake! The campground was rough, uneven but huge camp sites with picnic tables and a fire pit and a great view of the lake!
That is The MotherShip in the middle, the bronze one!

We woke up the morning of June 29th at 6 am to hail pounding the roof of the MotherShip! It was LOUD!

The campground was near a stand of beautiful Aspens

The "Pando" stand of Aspen was near us, but we never made it there. The stand of Aspen known as the Pando is a clone colony of a single male quaking aspen and is estimated to weigh over 6,600 tons making it one of the heaviest known organisms in the world. The name Pando means "I spread".  Hard for me to think of Aspens as an organism, I just love them!

Here is the link to the blog when we passed by these same Aspens in the fall. The colors are magnificent!

Today we leave and head down to Bluff Utah for four days! We loved the Cadillac Ranch campground when we were there last year, so we are headed back for another visit! Lots to see and do from there!
So we are on the road again......
Happy Trails from The MotherShip!
Geri, Chuck, Scottie, DoogieBowser and Radar!
